Zoom Sarawak 2011

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera...

Sudah lama aku meninggalkan zaman ber-blog nie. Perasaan untuk ber-blog tu ada, cuma kekangan masa dan kemalasan untuk menaip. Tapi untuk kali ni, aku ber-blog untuk tinggalkan kenangan untuk diri sendiri bagi sesuatu program yang bagi aku sukar untuk dilupakan. Zoom Sarawak 2011. Perancangan untuk program ni mmg dah awal dah, tak silap dari July 2010 dan sepatutnya direalisasikan Febuari 2011, tapi disebabkan masalah2 yg tak dpt dielakkan, program terpaksa ditukar kepada May 2011. Kiranya program terakhir SRM sebelum menutup tirai 2010/2011 la. Untuk program ni, aku telah menawarkan diri untuk menjadi Head of Sponsor Division. Reason?? Aku tak pernah pegang biro ni dan aku nak sahut cabaran tu untuk diri sendiri tengok sejauh mana kemampuan aku. Aku bersama-sama hanafi ijat adzeem ezry nadiah dan shaniza menggalas tanggungjawab untuk mencari dana untuk menampung program ini. Alhamdulillah, beberapa company telah berjaya menaja program ini. Semua ni atas bantuan komiti2 sponsor sendiri dan bantuan komiti2 zoom sarawak. Antaranya adalah.

Alhamdulillah, walaupun tak seperti yang diharapkan, sedikit sebanyak wang dan barangan yang diperoleh berjaya menampung program ini. Selain dari wang yang didapatkan dari program ini dari bahagian sponsor, kami satu team zoom sarawak dah laksanakan jualan selama hampir 2 bulan didalam kawasan hostel iaitu jualan nasi lemak. Banyak jugak hasil keuntungan dari jualan nie. Oh, ada lagi, selain tu ada buat volleyball tournament dan futsal tournament utk jana duit, tapi hasilnya takde la byk sangat, yang penting ada dan dapat melatih student2 untuk menjalankan event. Hehehe.

Bermulanya episod 1 perjalanan program zoom sarawak. iaitu bermula dengan ice breaking pada pukul 6petang memandangkan ada yang habis exam pada jam 5ptg. So Ice Breaking ni just simple punya icebreaking untuk mengeratkan lagi hubungan antara peserta2. Pada malam tersebut, jam 830malam, sesi  TOT diadakan bagi memastikan setiap orang faham akan tugas dan tanggungjawab masing2 semasa program dijalankan. Bukan itu je, malam tu jugak last preparation dibuat, check list barang, packing dan macam2 lagik.

Aku Luqman Shahrom dah mula berkampung di bilik SRM seawal 4petang selepas check out hostel. Malam tu ramai yang berkampung dibilik SRM memandangkan semua dah kene move out dari hostel. Petang tu, aku napi amir faris adzeem aidil amik kesempatan untuk ke alamanda untuk mencari sedikit makanan utk dimakan malam ni. Yang pompuan ditempatkan dirumah sir hazimin. Geng2 laki duk main PES je, ada yang amik kesempatan untuk buat preparation, timbang beg, dan ada yang tido je malam tue. Yer le esok tu pagi2 dah nak gerak. Sambung hari seterusnyaa.....

Hari yang ditunggu hampir 8bulan sudah tiba. Jam 230pagi semua dah dikejutkan untuk mandi dan bersiap untuk ke KLIA. Ada yang mandi kat bilik SRM, ada yang mandi kat stadium. 230pagi tue. hahaha. Jam 330pagi, taklimat akhir disampaikan oleh shahrom. Sarapan seawal jam 3pagi disediakan untuk mengalas perut sebelum ke KLIA. Barang dah tersedia, bas dah tersedia, dimulakan dengan doa oleh ezry, kami bertolak ke KLIA jam 430pagi. Jam 5 pagi tiba di KLIA, trip pertama adalah jam 710pagi dan trip ke 2 jam 1140pagi. Aku in-charge untuk trip pertama, utk check in tix dan bag, ambil masa dalam 20-30minit jugak la, ye la 280kg punya barang nak dibawak masuk. itu baru trip pertama. hahaha. Selepas check in, semua ke surau untuk solat subuh dan kemudian masing2 bawa diri untuk mencari sesuap makanan untuk breakfast. Aku dan yang lain ke KFC pagi tu, tengah2 makan, biasa la, ezry buat lawak nak masuk degree die. Hahaha. Jam menunjukkan 640pagi, masa untuk boarding. Rasanya dah just nice gerak 640, padahal dah lambat, siap ada yang tertinggal handphone la. Hayaaaa, macam kat Sabah dulu jugak.

Dalam anggaran jam 845pagi, kami tiba di Kuching International Airport. Terasa amat excited pulak. Haha. Macam biasa, aku tak suka naik flight sebab aku susah nak hilangkan kebengangang kat telinga neh, sebelom touch down la waktu aku paling benci sebab sakit telinga macam nak jerit satu flight kasi semua org dengar. Hahahaha. Tapi biasa la, buat2 cool sudah. Setiba di airport, jumpa pulak geng2 ngabas borneo dari SRM Melaka. Ada jugak borak2 tanya flow program dorang macamana.

Malang tak berbau, lepas je keluar dari bahagian imegrasion tue, masing2 collect bag, ada 2 bag dari trip pertama ni missing. Kelam kabut la aku amal luqman dan yang lain2 nak settlekan. Terpaksa koyakkan semua tag yang ada untuk check no mana yang missing. Nasib baik dapat settlekan, itupun take time jugak la. Satu bag orang lain TER amik, dan satu bag lagi boleh pulak TER pegi ke Sabah. Sambil2 menunggu trip ke dua sampai, ada yang ke McD, lepak2, main laptop, tido dan lain2 lagi. Memandangkan syaza ada nak pakai suratkhabar, aku rom ngan napi follow atok utk cari suratkhabar. Boleh la jalan2 kejap pusing bandar kuching. Alang2 tu, dapat jugak pekene Laksa Sarawak dan Mee Kolok besebelahan dengan Wija Trading (salah satu sponsor zoom). Bagi aku, laksa sarawak mmg best, mee kolok kurang skit. Hehehe. Singgah rumah atook jap untuk solat dan amik makanan untuk lunch dan terus ke airport memandangkan trip ke 2 dah nak smapi. Bas UNIMAS pon dah sampai, budak2 trip ke 2 pon dah sampai, so next destination adalah ke Muzium Sarawak untuk ushar2 apa yang ada dan untuk lunch kat sana. Lepas ke Muzium, plannya nak ke waterfront, tapi cancel sebab hujan dan terus balik ke UNIMAS untuk check in rumah. Not bad la rumah@hostel, kalau MMU nye hostel camtu mmg best la. Peserta lelaki ada 3 rumah, dan pompuan ada 2 rumah dan satu hall khas untuk makan. Aku satu bilik dengan shahrom dan rumah tu hanafi sirhazimin ezry syafiq erol ali. Yang lain2 kat rumah lain la. :P. Jam menunjukkan jam 6petang, waktu tu aku da janji dengan pihak adabi untuk dorang kasi hamper dan goodies bag kat hostel unimas tue. Orang lain duk syok tidur, aku duk menunggu, last2, malam jugak dorang sampai. 20 Hamper dan 100 goodies bag pihak adabi bagi untuk zoom sarawak.

Malam tue, buffet makan malam disediakan oleh Patimah Mail Enterprise. Sedap2. Hehehe. Lepas makan makan, ada sikit discussion yang akan dibuat untuk memastikan program di SK Maludam berjalan lancar. Malam tu aku dah weng dah atau dalam bahasa yang lebih sopan, kepala aku dah pening tahap maksimum dah. Harini dah all out, byk tenaga dah pakai. Plan nak tidur awal, tapi lambat jugak sbb kene packing bag utk esok, aku ngan rom plan utk share bag je, senang sikit. Lepas packing, terus ZzZzZzZzZzZz... pagi tu dah kene get ready seawal 4.30pagi sebab bas akan bergerak jam 5pagi.

To Be Continue...

Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa

Assalamualaikum dan Salam Sejahtera....

Dah lama jugak aku tak update blog nie. Kali ni aku nk menghabiskan masa aku dengan berblog (kalau ada masa la). 10 Mac 2011 adalah masa yang paling aku tunggu2, iaitu utk menonton Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa (HMM). 3 Hari sebelom tayangan, aku dah beli tiket melalui online. 11 tiket sekaligus beli. Main redah je la, sapa nak amik. Ternyata, tak smpai pon hari tayangan lagik, hall dah pon full. Review pasal filem yang aku nanti2kan nie, tenyata mantap. Tapi apa yg aku expect dari filem nie adalah lebih tinggi dari apa yang aku lihat. Mungkin aku expect 4.99/5bintang, tapi aku rasa 4.5/5 bintang je.

1. Penceritaan

Bagi aku penceritaan die bagus, cuma ada part yang kurang skit, maksud aku bosan. Tapi tu la, ni filem epik atau boleh dikatakan lagi cerita sejarah, so kalo nk expect lebih pon tak boleh la. Penceritaan oke la, tapi aku tak brapa faham skit bab tahyul atau sihir2 nie. Adakah sejarah langkasuka @ garuda berdasarkan amalan sihir? sihir die pulak bukan calang2. Bab tu aku tak berapa tahu sangat, tapi dari sejarah merong mahawangsa tu aku faham la. Hehehe.

2. Graphic

CGI kat malaysia ni walaupon takde la baru sangat dan takde la lama sangat, graphic die boleh dikatakan mantap la untuk filem malaysia. walaupon ada beberapa cacat cela skit, terutama kat sampan2 askar2 garuda yang kene bakar oleh merong dengan pantulan cahaya matahari tue. apa salahnya kalau bakar terus sampan tu, baru nampak real. hehehe. yang lain semuanya mantap!

3. Pelakon

Pemilihan watak2 utama memang terbaek! semuanya kene dengan watak dorang. Stephen rahman mmg pemilihan yang terbaek untuk watang merong. EMBOK! serious umi nazera nampak hot! natural beauty die terserlah. khir rahman pon menjadi. cuma kenapa watak jehan miskin cuma ibarat watak biasa, kalau ada sedikit dialog untuk die mungkin lagi best. Pelakon2 extra - askar2 die agak kurang skit, sebab askar2 ada kurus keding, ada gemok, kalau amik yang badan sedap2 skit baru nampak mantap skit team askar2 tue. hehehehe.

4. Bahasa

Penggunaan Bahasa Inggeris oke la, macam tak terperasan plak ni filem malaysia. hahaha. Penggunaan bahasa melayu die plak puitis sangat, sampai susah nak faham maksud yang cuba disampaikan. Tapi yusry kru dah tukar 17 kali script die kan. so rasanya inilah yang terbaek.

Overall, bagi aku inilah yang dinamakan FILEM! Bukan macam "filem" lain kat malaysia ni yang mengangkat filem mereka sebagai filem, tapi sebenarnya kat tahan TELEMOVIE sahaja. Well DONE KRU! Keep up a good work! Serius mantap! Rugi sape tak tengok!

DroidPad

"Kalau semua orang2 skrg duk berbangga dengan iPad, BlackPad, Samsung galaxy tab dan mana2 device table yang lain, Malaysian Local Company tak terkecuali tuk keluarkan device setanding mobile table yang lain. Siap OS Android lagik tue... ada berani ka device lain? Sesungguhnya, aku hanya menyampaikan informasi ini kepada kalian semua. Infomasi tambahan sila baca dibawah yer."

CSL is a local Malaysian company who has in recent days garnered some headlines when it supported Fusion Garage’s controversy-laden JooJoo tablet early this year and later with its entry into cheap Android devices. Early this month, it announced its entry into the Android tablet, with its own version, called DroidPad. No, it has nothing to do with Motorola (and it shows). I took the opportunity this evening to visit one of the sales outlet which had a fully functioning demo unit of the product that is being sold for RM1,599 (no discount, at least from their retail outlet). That would be approximately USD500.

Just for your information, this is not a detailed review, since I only managed to spend 30 minutes in the outlet before feeling a bit uneasy, not giving the sales person a definite yes or no, in purchasing it. Nevertheless, thanks go to the outlet for giving me free rein on the DroidPad, to test everything that came to mind (I missed a few critical ones, as I will point out below).

Hardware:

 

This is a compact tablet at 7 inch (same as the Samsung Tab). It can definitely be held with one hand, although do not expect that hand to hold it for too long since it weighs half a kg. The size of the device makes it seem less bulky than it really is. The build itself feels solid, since it is lined with metal (aluminium? or a knock off material? I couldn’t tell). It feels sturdy enough that I am confident it won’t break after a fall. However, this is not a beauty to behold. It really does look ‘fat’, at half an inch (see picture compared to a 20cent coin). The unit was still wrapped in a thin plastic wrap (cheap way to prevent scratches I guess). I did not take note of the speakers, although I believe they are located at the sides.

Display:

The resolution is only at 800 by 480 (WVGA). The colours seem washed and not as vibrant as it should have been. This is one of the downsides of the DroidPad since they needed to cut cost from somewhere. However, the viewing angles were not that bad. You could still make out the images even at 30-45 degrees. Nevertheless, the display is of the capacitive variant (yay!) and I have to admit that it feels quite sensitive to the touch. Typing was a breeze and with ample room, I was typing away fairly quickly.

Interface and Feel:

The DroidPad uses stock Froyo, Android 2.2. The good news is: you can customize your own homescreen to your hearts content! The bad news is: CSL has put their horrible looking widgets at the side of the screen [update: this seems to be the same horrible widgets on Viewpad 7 and Camangi FM600]. The unit I was using had both the stock Launcher and Launcher Pro on it. I also found that the accelerometer did not kick into action when I rotated the screen to potrait (it seemed stuck on landscape) even though I toggled to auto-rotate in the settings. I find this is just poor implementation on CSL’s part; just slap some of their own icons to make it ‘theirs’. I am confident most users would just ditch the whole custom interface provided and run their own (ADWLauncher or Launcher Pro).

The transitions were smooth and there were no lag (not surprising since the DroidPad uses Qualcomm’s improved MSM7227 600Mhz CPU to power the device). Things just zip open. The only problem that I could detect was in some crazy input detections while using Google Maps (the pinch-to-zoom was doing the opposite of what we wanted). The screen also froze once (before it had to be ‘forced close’). I’ve seen this sort of behaviour only in the ROM flashing scene, when using an un-optimised ROM that has been freshly released. I suspect this is the problem for the DroidPad… poor development quality control. The importance is that this is merely software-related and not hardware; it can be fixed!

Applications:

According to the sales person, there is no Flash available for the unit. I tried downloading from the Market (yes, they have the Market available) but it did not show on it. Which brings me to the Market; it is available from the apps menu (but sorry, no paid apps).

I installed Linpack Benchmark to test out its score, and found that it performed relatively well for its CPU, at 7.258Mflops.

Games worked well too.

I tested out Aldiko on the device, and found it very usable as an e-reader (see the picture). Would I use this to read Kindle? Why not? The screen is as big as a paperback anyway, and from my normal reading angle and distance, the words and text seem clear enough to me. I also tested the GPS and found it very speedy (again using the wifi connection only); managed to get a lock on my location in Google Maps in a few seconds.

What about browsing? It is acceptable. It won’t beat the iPhone 4 and the latest Android devices (of course), but it is not slow either. The best thing is the screen size allows a full site to be viewed without zooming into its part (see Engadget’s homepage that fit nicely in landscape mode). Even at that size, the text on the website can be easily read off the screen (see screen for yourself). The sales person told me that the DroidPad comes bundled with MapKing and a free one year license (good for Malaysians!). I think this device can easily replace any Garmin standalone devices for the car.

Camera:

It is a paltry 3.0MP camera in the back and a VGA (I believe) in the front (top right hand, see picture above for the smaller front facing camera). It takes adequate pictures (which reminded me of the camera on my old HTC Dream). Don’t expect much from it. For simple photo taking, it is quite fast. Video was basic and low quality. Unfortunately, I should have downloaded Fring/Skype or Qik to test out the front facing camera also. But I forgot all about that.

Review Regrets:

Besides not testing the front facing camera, I did not test the phone functionalities also. What I was told is that calls can be made via a handset that will be supplied along with the tablet. You can also pair it up with a Bluetooth headset if you want. Oh, please do not trust what the website says about their battery usage… CSL products are known for their poor battery quality. [Update: 3240mah battery made from an unidentified ODM, Original Design Manufacturer, is really hard to validate, without formal testing] Really sad but true. I think it should last at least 6 hours of heavy usage. It should, but again this is mere speculation until I get my hands on an actual unit (if ever).

Conclusion:

Is the DroidPad worth the money, given that the screen is only adequate and has low resolution? Does the USD500 justify the 2 cameras, the GPS and phone functionalities? I think on the matter of hardware, it seems a good price to pay for those abilities that were non-existent on the iPad. But if you are looking for high-quality builds that you can show off to your friends, well, let me suggest that you just walk away from this one. DroidPad at the end of the day, may not be an iPad alternative, but it sure is a Tab alternative.

I suspect that the DroidPad would be popular among the developers and Android hardcore developers and users who would like to rebuild the ROM and fix all the software flaws that was inherent in CSL’s work. I am sure that there is just so many things that you can do on this device that were not possible in smaller phone screen sizes. On that hope, I think the Android fanboy would be more than willing to spend that money on something that is a much cheaper version of the Samsung Tab.

Or you can just wait a month or two for the price to go down another RM100-RM200 before buying it. At RM1,300, this device is a MUST buy, given that it really delivers the basic Android experience that we have come to love.

The device is already available locally in Malaysian stores. No word about international sales though.

It's easy to see how Apple might have overlooked this, what with their headquarters located in a place with 60 degree days in February, but anyone from colder climates knows that you can't operate an iPhone with gloves on. In South Korea, they have figured out a way around this problem using the best tool possible: encased pork products.

Yes, South Koreans have beat the cold by using snack sausages as ersatz iPhone styluses. The touch screen on an iPhone, and iPod Touch, utilizes the electrical conductivity of your finger to locate the input. The device can't sense that conductivity through a glove. However, this tasty meat treat has the same conductivity as human flesh, so the iPhone registers its touch a if it were a finger.

In particular, it seems the CJ Corporation's line of Max rods are prized by South Korean techies for their usefulness as iPhone styluses. Of course, as a blogger, most of my electronics are already coated in a thin layer of Slim Jim grease, so maybe I was just ahead of the curve this whole time.

Casing iPhone paling mahal, ada berani?

Mungkinkah ini casing handphone paling mahal...? Kepada peminat iPhone, ada berani cuba ini punye casing...? Difahamkan, iPhone ini dibuat dengan 270 gram emas 22k ,136 berlian F, 53 berlian pada logo  di belakang dan satu berlian 7.1 Karat untuk butang navigasi. Harga? No komen lah!
